oil, brick, and wax on canvas
2012
In February of 2012 I received a phone call from my landlord that my apartment may or may not be on fire. That is always true at any point- Schroedinger's Apartment Fire. In fact, someone had set the building on fire, watched the firemen extinguish the flames, then set it on fire again.
Fortunately, no one was hurt. My bedroom was eerily untouched, since it was on the other end of the apartment from the fire. In the morning, the courtyard fence, window frames, and miscellaneous courtyard debris which previously had been inside of our bathroom looked vaguely cubist and fascinating.
This is one of the early paintings I made incorporating crushed brick foraged from the neighborhood of Fishtown in Philadelphia, where I used to live. The series got increasingly abstract, and there are other available paintings, but I haven't put them in the shop. They are here. Inquire if interested.
