This is a painting of staircases and portholes on the deck of the SS United States. Two different perspectives of the same ladder are stacked in a mirrored, disorienting composition. Multiple people told me that this painting reminded them of Escher and the Duchamp painting "Nude Descending Staircase." But there is no nude.
The SS United States was a luxury ocean liner that hundreds of people took on transatlantic vacations, so I named this painting "Vacationing Nude Descending Staircase." Maybe the nude is absent because they're on vacation elsewhere? Maybe it's the ghost of vacations past? That's up to you!
