Brooke Lanier based this painting on collages she made with photos she took of Lake Belle Taine in Northern Minnesota. She sliced along the lines of where architectural elements like docks and decks met the natural world, then recombined them in increasingly abstract ways. The way she chose to apply the paint adds nuances of meaning to the visual communication that cannot be captured in a photograph.
