2024-2025
This is a highly textured painting of the port bow of the SS United States, America's Flagship. The grid-like pattern is a result of where a chain rubbed away paint in a parabolic arc as the ship was towed to Turkey to have the asbestos removed. The ship is currently berthed across from the Ikea in South Philadelphia.
I revised this painting in 2025 by sanding down the protective bumper on the pier and painting over it with translucent pigments used in the rest of the water. Doing so allows you to see a paint ghost of the revisions, as if the chafing gear is submerged. I emphasized the water and the angles of the scene by removing this obstacle.
