This seemingly abstract painting is a faithful depiction of the corrosion of the copper cladding peeling away from the wooden hull of the ship Gazela. Brooke Lanier volunteered extensively aboard Gazela, helping with restoration efforts while she was working on this series. She wrote a series of blogs related to this work.
