This side view of a ship is wired on the back so it can be hung on hooks or lay flat on a table. The complex textures are designed to be touched with the intention of making the art more accessible to visually impaired people. It provides the opportunity to engage with the work in more ways. 
 
The textures were created through carving and handbuilding. Further surface decoration includes underglazes, oxides, and several varieties of layered, hand-painted glazes.
