We're going to read Nikkolai Gogol's "The Overcoat" since we have some time to mull it over. Dostoyevski and Nabokov lauded it as exceptionally influential and one of the greatest Russian short stories, so that's good enough for me.

About the event
Dostoyevski and Nabokov lauded Nikolai Gogol's "The Overcoat" as exceptionally influential and one of the greatest Russian short stories, so that's good enough for me. I was surprised that it was published in 1842, since it seems about 100 years ahead of its time. It is darkly funny, and the tragedies of daily struggles are simultaneously mundane and catastrophic.
